Eating Local around the Calendar
Local market gardener Karen Geiser will share about ways her family incorporates local foods into their menu throughout the year. She will bring along some of the fare they are eating in November and look at what eating with the seasons means. She will also share about different food preservation methods along with season extension and cold framing ideas for the garden. So whether your food source is your backyard, a farmer's market or the supermarket you can glean some new ideas for making your local diet span the calendar.
What does organic really mean?
A presentation focused on some of the terms commonly seen in advertising and grocery store/farmers markets displays. What does it mean when something is labeled "organic" or "all natural"? Is it better for you? Safer? Does it mean different things at the grocery store than at the farmer's market? We will also discuss what it means for the farmer or grower that is producing the product.
But my family won't eat whole wheat!
Tisha will discuss her experiences in transitioning her cooking and her family's tastes in several areas. The presentation will focus on using more whole grains, less refined sugar, and healthier fats. This type of transition is a journey as much as a destination, and is typically most successful if done slowly over time.
